DC103111 A Halloween Google Doodle Goes Pumpkin Carving

The folks over at Google have been cranking out Halloween themed Doodles for over twenty years. They’ve shaken it up a bit this go round by replacing cartoon images with a real life time lapsed video of pumpkin carvings.

The video was filmed over the course of eight hours on the Google Mountain View, CA campus and features costume clad carvers working hard to create the google in these massive gourds.  The carving  team used six giant pumpkins, with some weighing well over 1,000 pounds, so great care had to be taken that they collapse upon themselves. According to Doodler Sophia Foster-Dimino over at the Official Google Blog, the inspiration came from wanting to capture the fascinating transformation that takes place when a pumpkin is carved into a jack-o-lantern.

For a more in depth look on how the actual carving went down, Google has also provided  a behind the scenes video.
