It’s the vernal equinox. Days are getting shorter, the air a bit more crisp and London Design Week is in full swing, all signs that fall is officially here.  We know you’ve been busy assessing your cooler weather gear – not to worry, we’ve pulled the best design stories from around the web in case you missed them.

  • We can always count on our friends over at Curbed.com to tip us off on real estate prices being slashed. This week we learned that the first commission for legendary American architect Philip Johnson received a 20 percent shave. Located in the tony Bedford, N.Y. community, the home originally listed for $2M last November, the three-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom property has just been reduced to $1.6 million.
  • Mashable is reporting that Apple’s newly minted CEO, Tim Cook, will hold a big media event Oct. 4 to announce the iPhone 5. The newest iPhone will reportedly be available in the few weeks following the announcements.
  • According to Fast Company there is no better time than now to be a designer.  Last week, the Industrial Designers Society of America held its yearly gala, Co.Design’s Belinda Lanks was on hand to deliver a speech on that very topic, you can read it here.
  • Just how much bubble wrap would you need to wrap yourself in when jumping out a window? If you’ve ever wondered about the answer, you’re in luck. Rhett Allain of Wired took the query, which first posted on Reddit, and came up with an actual scientific answer using the scenario of a 6th floor jump.
