Font Fanatics: Time To Shuffle Up and Deal
By Diana Cook
Card sharps and typography aficionados alike will appreciate this ingenious deck of playing cards. The 52 Types deck is a visually arresting take on the the traditional deck of cards, while doubling as a quick reference tool for designers.
Each of the cards is designed to highlight a specific font. Ace through jack shows the majority of each font’s family while the ten through two cards were given a more radial design. Helvetica gets the ace of spades spot, while Perpetua snags the two of diamonds. The jokers are represented by Comic Sans (of course) and Papyrus. Designed by Adam Bauer from Beaver Creative, the deck is the perfect way to pass the time and brush up on your fonts.
We aren’t the only ones that think these cards are pretty cool. Earlier this year the project was awarded with a Golden Addy in San Diego’s local round. This week the deck made The Dieline’s Top Ten Packaging Design list. What can we say? Deal us in.
