Frank Lloyd Wright: 9 Amazing Outdoor Items

Throughout his life Frank Lloyd Wright spoke of the influence of the outdoors on his work. He advised his apprentices to “study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you.”
While we’ve already explored ways to bring a little FLW to your interior, considering Wright’s love of the outdoors, these al fresco accessories are a great way to pay homage to the Frank Lloyd Wright legacy. Today, you can bring a bit of the Frank Lloyd Wright aesthetic to your garden and home exterior with Wright inspired designs created to promote the integration of habitat and nature.
9. Lake Geneva Doormat

Welcome your guests with the tulip motif and keep the spirit of great design alive. Wright designed the tulip windows for the Lake Geneva Hotel, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin in1911. Sadly, the hotel was demolished in 1970. $44

8. Hollyhock Fountain

The Aline Barnsdall Hollyhock House located in Hollywood, CA was designed by Wright in the early 1920′s. The house takes its name from the stylized concrete hollyhock ornamentation which surrounds the residence. The water tower of this cast stone fountain is embellished with the abstract hollyhock design made famous by Wright. $149

7. Winslow House Thermometer

Keep abreast of the temperature with this brass, non-mercury thermometer. Adapted from a design from the Herbert Winslow House in River Forest, Illinois. This thermometer has an antique patina finish and reads out in both Fahrenheit and Celsius. $45

6. Robie House Urn

Based on the original from the Frederick C. Robie House (Chicago, Illinois, 1910), this outdoor planter is a great way to show off your annual blooms. Designed using the classic “circle within a square” favored by Wright, the broad overhanging top mimics the sheltering roof line of the Robie House. Cast in reconstituted stone, the weatherproof urn weighs 280 lbs. $950

5. Frank Lloyd Wright House Numbers

Add some panache to your street address. These very cool house numbers have been adapted from the stylized font created for use on exhibition drawings in the 1930′s. Each is made of cast aluminum with a bronze-colored finish and has been lacquered and finished with a wax coating. Bargain hunters rejoice, the price has recently been reduced, but act quickly, as they are now a discontinued product. $14.00

3. Oak Park Crouching Figure Statue

The Boulder Sculpture is a replica of the crouching figure of man sculptures commissioned by Wright for the entry to his 1898 architectural studio in Oak Park, Illinois. Wright turned to sculptor Richard Bock, with whom he frequently collaborated to create the powerful pieces. Hand-cast in cement and colored to match the originals. $195
