HGTV Inside Look: White House Holiday Design
By Diana Cook
Gingerbread White House 2009
Ever since First Lady Jackie Kennedy gave her breathy, Stepford Wife-like performance during the White House home tour, the world has been fascinated with the interior and inner workings of the executive mansion.
HGTV fans have enjoyed seeing the holiday traditions come to life there for more than a decade. This year, the one-hour special features President Barack Obama and his family lighting the National Christmas Tree and highlights the work of nearly 100 volunteers as they adorn the White House in only a few days.

Is it just me or do these “elves” look pissed?
Designer Genevieve Gorder will offer viewers an insider’s look at how dozens of volunteers work with the White House staff to implement this year’s décor theme, “Simple Gifts,” a celebration of friends and family, hearth and home–all of the simple pleasures that make the holidays special.
During the special, Genevieve chats with volunteers and White House staff about how they interpreted the décor theme to remind onlookers of the simple things that bring joy at Christmas. In addition, visitors to HGTV.com will see an extensive behind-the-scenes photo gallery of the decorating process, as well as a retrospective of holiday décor at the White House.

RE: Red Room Photo: It’s just you:) I’m one of those elves, and I can tell you we were all over the moon happy to be decorating the White House! It looks to me like the lady in the glitter hat (Edwina) is talking, and we are listening to her story.
