Whoa, Nice Cans: Canstruction Design

Art and design meet philanthropy to form one of the most creative charities in the world, Canstruction.  A foundation of the Society for Design Administration (SDA), Canstruction is a design/build competition where teams of architects, engineers, and students compete to design and build giant structures made entirely from full cans of food.

The results are displayed to the public as magnificent sculpture exhibits in each city where a competition is held. At the close of the exhibition, all of the canned food is donated to local food banks for distribution to emergency feeding programs that include pantries, soup kitchens, elderly and day care centers.

I’ve pulled a few of my favorite images of the sculptural food edifices, you can see more and learn about upcoming events by visiting the Cansrtuction website.

Wow, I thought canstruction was a mispelling. What a great way to recycle. I am a builder too and this has given me some ideas. Might try to build a wall or two out of cans.

    Very interesting.
