DC070810 TurQ Pantone Decree: Turquoise 2010

If you are like me, the first half of 2010 flew by in a blur of new decade-ness. Six months have gone by since color authority Pantone declared turquoise (15-5519 TCX on your Pantone fandex), Color of the Year for 2010.

Tossing last year’s “Mimosa” aside like it was mixed with some bottom shelf champagne, Turquoise was crowned the “It” color for 2010. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute explains why Turquoise was chosen, “In many cultures, Turquoise occupies a very special position in the world of color. It is believed to be a protective talisman, a color of deep compassion and healing, and a color of faith and truth, inspired by water and sky. Through years of color word-association studies, we also find that Turquoise represents an escape to many – taking them to a tropical paradise that is pleasant and inviting, even if only a fantasy.”

Conveniently, turquoise is also one of 3,000 colors available in Pantone’s line of superior-quality, eco-friendly paint.  So, we are six months into the New Year, and I’m wondering, have we sufficiently embraced this year’s color? If the answer is no, fortunately Everythingturquoise.com has done some heavy lifting for us.  As the name implies, everything featured is turquoise hued, from sport watches to bath towels.
