Recycled Skateboard Furniture By Deckstool
By Jeffrey Hyatt
Bust your skateboard trying a frontside 180? Don’t throw it away. Turn that bad boy into a stool. Or, at least let designer Jason Podlaski do it for you. Built with recycled skateboard decks, the compact, hand-crafted Deckstool is great for a bedroom, dorm room, or just anywhere you want to sit down on something that was once flipping around a skate-park somewhere.
The Pennsylvania-based team behind the Deckstool carefully sand down the edges and rough areas of the broken decks, then finish with a water-based satin clear coat . Even the cast aluminum skateboard trucks are recycled to connect the seat to the legs. The cool thing is that so many skateboards feature excellent graphic designs on the decks, so it’s impressive to see that art component, in all its busted-up and broken glory, applied to a furniture design that’s both functional and unique.
