A Monument To Honor Filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar
By Jeffrey Hyatt
Build a monument to pay homage to Spanish film director Pedro Almodóvar? Absolutely! And that’s just what Enproyecto Architects have done, and quite wonderfully.
The Almodóvar monument, nicely bold, yet simple, is located in the director’s hometown of Calzada de Calatrava, in the heart of the community of Castilla, La Mancha, Spain. The Almodóvar project was the winner of a competition developed by the community government to pay tribute to Almodóvar’s film work, while making artistic references to the culture and landscape of La Mancha. The theme of the project was to frame the land of La Mancha as if it were a fragment of one of Almodóvar’s films. A job well done! And now we shall commence re-watching Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!
