Korean Hye Ro Hun House By Seoul’s IROJE KHM
By Joe Wertz
Built between a mountain and city in North-central Korea, the Hye Ro Hun House combines the often-opposing environments by mixing red cedar with modern materials like structural concrete. Architects at Seoul’s IROJE KHM designed a transparent entrance that yields to a canyon-like walkway accessing a pair of wooden boxes that are separated into spaces for the parents and children. One of the boxes hosts the master bedroom and an office; the other has two smaller bedrooms and a children’s study room. The two wings float over a concrete base, which contains the living room, kitchen, dining room and a double-height bamboo garden. [via contemporist]
