A retreat from the ongoing energy of its West Coast setting, Rogers Sturz’ home focuses inward to a central courtyard built to connect the homeowners with a protected oasis of nature. Designed by Michael Lee, the home is among the four chosen for the 2009 AIA Los Angeles Fall Home Tour of the exclusive “tree section” of Manhattan Beach. The concrete, glass and steel home has warm wood accents and exaggerated eaves that shelter the second-story master suite and the street-side entrance, which opens into a double-height living room and a floor-to-ceiling wall of glass.
