Landscape Surrounds, Sustains Australian Island Resort

Nestled in a dramatic landscape of cliffs and beaches, the Southern Ocean Lodge is both surrounded by nature and dependant on it. The Kangaroo Island resort was designed by architect Max Pritchard and exists off the grid by collecting rainwater, generating electricity and organically treating waste on site. Untouched Australian bush crowds the resort, which has large glass walls that face the ocean and wavy curves that link guest suites to the sea. Guest suites were built from lightweight, prefabricated materials that were easily carted on site, minimizing impact to the area. [via archdaily]
