The Chef’s Portmanteau is Knifetastic

Bringing new meaning to that infamous Top Chef send-off, “Please pack your knives and go,” The Chef’s Portmanteau is a backpack for the discriminating cook. Indeed, in planning this project, designers Dane Pieri, Albert Song, Julius Tarng spoke to a chef who said he’d rather bring his own gear to a family dinner than use someone else’s steak knife. Not happy with existing knife rolls, the designers set out to make a bag with compartments specifically for cookware. Dividers protect the knives from each other, PVC foam protects the backing, and there’s even a first aid compartment with a quick-access zipper. Tarng says he’d like to present this project to a chef, but he’s yet to do so. [via Core77]
