Taxidermy Artwork and Jewelry
By Chris Weiss
Perhaps the intensity of the green movement has become too much for a few designers to bear. Here’s something that spits right in the eye of environmentalism and good taste at the very same time: a new collection of jewelry and artwork composed of stuffed animals. Designed by Amsterdam artists Afke Golsteijn and Floris Bakker of Idiots, much pretentious wording has been wasted on these pieces of stuffed animals mixed with beads and blown glass. Here’s a sample: ” In a constantly twisting play between fantasy and reality Idiots emphasizes the borderline between life and death. The striking beauty and the vividness of the animals that figure in the works provoke an immediate attraction, but directly after the first glance one starts wondering what is going on exactly, thrilled by the perspective of transience that is brought forward.” I don’t think “attraction” and “thrilled” quite qualifies what most will feel upon viewing these pieces, but they are sure to inspire a reaction of some form.
