Perfectly Perforated Melbourne Home Flaunts Facade
By Joe Wertz
Built on a vacant lot bordered by a Victorian home on one side and an Edwardian weatherboard house on the other, the Perforated House was designed as a playful tribute to terraces and residential facades. Australia’s Kevellaris Urban Design created the concept for the Melbourne home, which transforms on a whim from private space to public stage. During the day, the home is opaque and reflective. At night, the perforated facade works as a lightbox that turns the house into a sort of diorama. Moveable walls, curtains and glass screens lets the home’s occupants alter their environment, while a solar hot water heater and glass ventilation louvers help them preserve it.
