Designers Become Map-makers At Garden Festival
By Joe Wertz
More than 200 designers assembled to create the more than 80 outdoor spaces showcased at this year’s International Garden Festival, a three-month event at Quebec’s Les Jardins de Métis/Reford Gardens, which runs through Oct. 4. Among the most compelling garden installations is “Dymaxion Sleeps,” by Jane Hutton and Adrian Blackwell, who created a unique way for visitors to relax and absorb the aromatic ambiance of lemon geraniums, lavender and mint. Industrial netting installed by a company that makes safety webbing for circus and acrobatic performers provides triangular seats and nests that allow visitors to float above the garden itself. The installation’s erratic, angular layout is based on Dymaxion or Fuller map, which are 2-D cartographical projects of the globe. [via pruned]
