Citigroup Data Center in Frankfurt 5

Citigroups’s new Data Centre in Frankfurt has just been awarded the LEED Platinum, which makes it Germany’s first such LEED accredited building. An environmentally conscious design by the engineering firm Arup Associates, this building sets new standards for energy hungry data centers. Featuring a raft of environmental measures, the Frankfurt datacenter manages to use only 30% of the power, 40% of the heating energy when compared to similar constructions, and thanks to an innovative reverse osmosis water treatment it saves 50 million litres of water each year. For an additional style element, the facade comes with a green wall on one side and a fenestrated window panel on another. [via Inhabitat]
