Quingpu Pedestrian Bridge
By Chris Weiss
An intriguing construction of exposed steel and intricate wooden skins, the Quingpu Pedestrian Bridge in Quingpu, Shanghai, digresses from most bridges we’ve seen in that it offers commuters a bent path over the 50-meter wide stretch of river. Proving that the shortest route isn’t necessarily the most stunning, the architects involved in the project felt that the bend was the best way to adapt the bridge to its surroundings. The structural supports of the bridge are asymmetrical, reflecting the differing nature of the north and south shores. The sloped ceiling is designed to better capture and reflect the artificial and natural light of the bridge further enhancing its blending into its setting. [via Arch Daily]
