Barge Beach Budapest Floats Down the Danube
By Jared Newman
Go to the beach or cruise down the river? Hungary-based designers Urban Landscape Group in a summer project called Barge Beach Budapest. It’s pretty self-explanatory, with a strip of sand and wooden boardwalks forming the deck of this 2100-square meter floating paradise. There’s a 16-meter pool, a paddling pool for kids, outdoor showers and even a bar and cafe. The creation scores green points, too, constructed of three recycled barges once used to carry stone and coal. Best of all, it’s open to the public, designed purely to help citizens of Budapest get more enjoyment from the Danube River, which is otherwise flanked by highways. [via Inhabitat]
