Manhattan Airport Would Take Over Central Park

Is it April Fools Day already? The idea of taking away Manhattanite’s biggest patch of green and replace it with the area’s fourth airport seems like such a horrible, ill-conceived and otherwise unnecessary idea, it’s got to be a farce. The Manhattan Airport Foundation’s Web site says over 72,000 people have signed a petition favoring the idea — people who are either completely fake or who can’t stand the outdoors and would love nothing more than a constant stream of airplanes overhead, not to mention potential security disasters. The following sentence on the site’s FAQ makes me believe this has to be a hoax: “Tavern on the Green will be given the option of applying for a franchisee lease in the concourse food court.” Let’s all have a gander at the renders, have a good laugh and enjoy a day in the park.
