Singapore Townhome Remodel By Ong and Ong

The design and style of many modern homes often projects a sparse, idealistic lifestyle on its occupants, but the residence on Blair Road in Singapore was built to blend old and new in a fashion that maximizes actual use and day-to-day living. Local firm Ong&Ong made sure the townhome conserved the look and feel of the existing building, while outfitting the space with subtle industrial elements that refine the experience of living in the home. Bamboo elements from the existing building façade were echoed throughout the home’s remodel, which had to preserve the height of the second floor. Designers raised the ceiling to create a mezzanine space on the second floor and replaced the roof with one that lets more light into the core of the home. The residence is bisected by a large, linear courtyard that helps ventilate the home and tie the interior of the home to outdoor spaces. [via archdaily]
