Brad Pitt Foundation Rides Camelback Duplex Design

The Camelback House concept connects to the street with its elevated stature and sweeping front porch, an item missing from most modern home ideas. Conceived by architects at Graft for Make it Right — the Hurricane Katrina-inspired and Brad Pitt-led foundation that focuses on community planning and redevelopment — the duplex .pdf proposal reveals a home inspired by camelbacks, a design methodology that historically allowed residents to easily add a second story or utilize extra roof space. A side door leads from the porch into an open living/dining/kitchen space. The lower unit has three bedrooms, which can be reconfigured into a two-bed/office layout. Solar panels and an efficiency unit occupies the second story, which has a large deck area that can be enclosed for private use or adapted to house a small garden. [via freshome]

Love the designs, but the real question is can we get these built? Especially in areas that need them the most….
