Porter House Preserves Public And Private Lake Views
By Joe Wertz
Built with an open floor plan, which promotes a central living space, designers at SkB Architects built the Porter Residence to connect individual home elements while preserving the intimacy and function of each. A Seattle home overlooking Lake Washington, the main level of the house was dropped to just above lake level, lowering the profile of the house, allowing glances from the street to meet water instead of wall. A taller column shields an outdoor courtyard from the neighbors, preserving at least a little private lake space for the homeowner. [via contemporist]
