A sexy smartphone is as much a status symbol as a technology that makes life easier. And as aesthetics go, the Philips X810 is a smooth operator. The “minimal yet iconic” approach, described by designer Trent Stoddard, combines contrasting materials such as stainless steel and rubber. Inspiration came from bars of gold and silver, along with waves and sand dunes, along with detailing modeled after handbag and shoe buckles. There’s a practical nature to some of the design decisions, too, with the waveform at the bottom lifting up the screen to protect it when face down. Sadly, the X810 was created for the Chinese market, so looking cool will be relegated to iPhone users for the foreseeable future [via Yanko Design]
