Passively Cool Desert House By LLoyd Russell
Jun 25, 2009 - By Joe Wertz
Rugged and utilitarian, architect Lloyd Russell’s designed a California home built from recycled and robust materials and created a passive energy concept to keep the house cool under the scorching desert sun. A steel canopy absorbs and reflects sunlight, shading the home. The canopy also serves as a simple wind buffer, cooling the house with by creating a breezy airflow above the roof. The corrugated steel walls of the Pioneertown house can also be opened or closed to facilitate heating and cooling. [via momoy]
