New Green Residential Tower Planned For Mexico City
By Joe Wertz
Urban apartments almost always lack a natural link to the landscape, a severed connection that makes it hard for families to feel at home when they’re separated from the earth. A new 36-story residential tower planned to open December 2011 in Mexico City brings smaller, urban families a private slice of land while letting them live within their means. A collaborative architectural project by Meir Lobaton and Kristjan Donaldson, the tower has garden spaces on every level, which serve to break up the outline of the building while providing functional grow-space for families. Each 1,300 square-foot apartment is build with a 520-square foot “garden extension” built atop the cantilevered outcropping of the apartment below. Each apartment is staggered 90 degrees from the one above it, creating a notch in the building large enough to accommodate plenty of light and full tree growth. [via archdaily]
