While studying at the University of Dundee, Mike Skene found a hankering for haptics, the study of man’s tactile world. Applying his interest to household objects, Skene — noa product design graduate — prototyped his DoorBell Project, which skews a common object and updates its user experience. Thirteen hand-tuned aluminum tubes, secured in a sycamore frame, are struck percussively to audio fed into the side of the bell unit. Skyne’s doorbell mod means users can define their own home ringtones with iTunes or download new rings directly to the device. [via yankodesign]
