Belsize Architects Update London City Home From Ground Up
By Joe Wertz
A renovation of a three-flat property near London’s Hampstead Village, architects at Belsize worked to transform the space into a modern home stunning from ground floor up. The back of the building was expanded and covered in glass, bringing light to the center of the home and linking it to an outdoor garden with subtle, low-key landscaping. The new rear extension has a lower-level patio and a granite wall, which forms a waterfall that trickles from the rooftop garden. The ground floor was lowered to add ceiling height, opening up the large living space which holds the kitchen, eating and family rooms. A folded sheet-steel staircase clad in walnut connects to private second-story spaces, where the master suite, walk-in closet and study are located. [via adelto]
