productora1 Mexico Home Uses Mountain And Earth To Fight Climate

Productora’s Chihuahua home has been designed around a specific regional climate, namely sub-freezing winter temperatures and scorching summertime sun. Because the day and night temperatures can vary by 20 degrees, designers partially buried the house into a mountain slope to buffer changes with the soil, which absorbs heat during the day and radiates warmth into the home at night. The home was arranged as a series of patios and roof openings, which bring light and ventilation to the center of the house. On the exterior, flowing, the Mexico home’s sweeping lines mimic that of nearby hills and landforms. [via archdaily]
