Defying Gravity: The Shadow Chair

At first glance, the Shadow Chair by British designer Chris Duffy seems to defy everything we knew about gravity. One piece of furniture trickery standing upright on only two legs, the illusion is the apparent black shadow that is part of the chair’s metal frame and functions as its base. Creatively clad in walnut wood and steel, we can’t help but wonder if the clever design is strong enough to hold the average American. But knowing that it’s worth a pricey $1,200 (£795.00 at today’s rate), it should. Right? [via TrendsNow]

Fun concept… may be suitable as an ornamental piece, but I would never trust it to support my tank-like physique for more than a handful of uses. The base needs to be thin to support the 'shadow' illusion, so that would have to be some incredible steel to be functional in the long term.

Definite eye candy, though. Very creative!
