Paul Raff Riffs On Sustainable Design For Cascade House
By Joe Wertz
For this Toronto home, Canadian architect Paul Raff worked to make obvious an architectural link between structure and surrounding. Built among old-growth trees in an old-school neighborhood, the Cascade House gently flows down its sloping lot. Aligned to absorb as much light and possible, the passive solar home holds heat with a three-level slate wall filled with holes that help warm air circulate throughout the house. Outside, a large glass privacy panel diffuses light and adds a striking focal point, changing colors with the seasons. [via contemporist]
