Energy Field Illuminated By Electron-art Installation
By Joe Wertz
It all started from a conversation with a friend. When Bristol-based artist Richard Box learned that his buddy was able to wield a lit fluorescent bulb like a lightsaber while playing underneath electrical lines near his house, he was fascinated. Box soon bribed a local farmer to use 3,600 square-meters of his land — seeded his “Field” with 1,301 fluorescent bulbs that emit an eerie ultraviolet glow thanks to spare electrons scattered from 400,000-volt overhead power lines.
