Separate But Well-connected, Impressive VIT Campus

Four distinct engineering disciplines are each given separate workspaces at Mumbai, India’s Vidyalankar Institute of Technology, but the individual suites are united by an interior promenade that links shared facilities and student spaces. Communication and networking are a key component of the Planet 3 Studios design concept, which both designates space and shares it, with strong and simple architectural elements. The ‘Educational Village’ is a city-within-a-city, an educational campus that lives under a large roof in the densely urban and developing city center of Wadala. Light streaks through openings in VIT’s exterior, lighting the building naturally, and a raised central “Learning Street” corridor links the complex of private and public spaces and tops a line of basement laboratories. Between research blocks are student recreation areas, which include a human-sized chessboard, half-court basketball court, a table tennis court, graffiti wall and suspended amphitheatre.
