Norwegian Farmhouse Built From Century-old Barn Boards

Built on the site of an abandoned farm overlooking lake Mjøsa in Toten, Norway, is a home with complex spaces framed by new exposed construction and simple materials. A 100-year-old on-site barn was dismantled due to structural concerns, but its exterior paneling was reclaimed to clad the exterior of the new home, which was designed by Jarmund/Vigsnæs AS Architects MNAL. Inside, the home was built around a series of visually connected common spaces. Spartan plywood walls line the house, which was oriented north, and terraces westward. The home’s main space rises south to soak up as much low winter sun as possible. [via archdaily]
